I was first introduced to kale chips a few years ago when a good friend of mine made them for me to try. She would snack on them like popcorn and make them almost nightly. They were kind of addicting and I’ve made them ever since- with a slight twist. Kale is so good for you and it’s less expensive and healthier to make the kale chips at home. I’ve come up with two different ways for you to prepare kale, so, go ahead and give it a try!
Kale Chips
Ingredients:
- 1 bunch fresh kale
- 2 tbsp. olive oil
- 1/2 tsp. kosher salt
- 1/2 tsp. crushed black pepper
Method of Preparation
- Gently rinse the kale with cold water and pat dry with a paper towel.
- Remove the thick stem from each piece of kale with a knife and then roughly chop.
- Lay the chopped pieces of kale on a large baking tray covered with either parchment paper, non-stick tinfoil, or a non-stick baking mat.
- Drizzle with olive oil and sprinkle with the salt and pepper. Make sure all pieces are evenly coated and place into a preheated 350F oven. Cook for about 6-7 minutes until the pieces begin to brown.
- Remove from the oven and let cool before enjoying. Will keep in an airtight container in the pantry for 2-3 days.
Sautéed Kale
Ingredients:
- 1 bunch of fresh kale
- 2 tbsp. olive oil
- 1/4 tsp. cayenne pepper
- 1/2 tsp. kosher salt
- 1/2 tsp. black pepper
Method of Preparation
- Gently rinse the kale with cold water and pat dry with a paper towel.
- Remove the thick stem from each piece of kale with a knife and then roughly chop.
- Place the chopped pieces into a frying pan along with the olive oil and sprinkle with the seasonings. Turn to medium-low heat and gently stir the kale until it has wilted and softened (about 5-7 minutes). It’s important to continually stir the kale until it is cooked through, otherwise it will stick and burn to the pan.
- Remove from the pan and serve while hot.
Enjoy!
